The bells of Westminster Abbey rang out at 5:43pm, the exact time fire broke out in Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral, in London on Tuesday.

In an extremely rare occurrence, UK Prime Minister Theresa May announced the bells would be rang to mark the fire which destroyed large parts of Paris’ iconic cathedral.

Bell-ringing at Westminster Abbey is usually reserved to mark the Royal Family birthdays and other commemorative events.

They were not used for the Grenfell Tower fire or the 7/7 bombings, to illustrate how rare this occurrence is.
