Sri Lankan President Visits Funerals of Victims Who Died in Blasts

SRI LANKA BOMBINGS: Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena visited three funeral homes in Negombo on Tuesday, April 23, to pay his respects to the victims of those who died in a series of explosions on Easter Sunday.
The Islamic State group said Tuesday, without providing evidence, that it was responsible for the series of blasts that killed more than 300 people and injured hundreds of others.
The claim came through the militant group’s Amaq news agency.
Also Tuesday, Sri Lanka’s state minister of defense told parliament that those who carried out the attacks did so in retaliation for attacks at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand last month.
