Footage from Libya’s al-Azizyah region reportedly shows forces loyal to Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) holding positions against the advancement of forces of Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA) towards Tripoli, on Sunday.
GNA-aligned fighters and the remains of a burnt vehicle can reportedly be seen west of the city of al-Azizyah, some 60 km (37 miles) southwest of Tripoli.
Since erupting earlier this month, fighting over the Libyan capital between Misrata forces and the LNA has left 121 dead, the World Health Organisation said on Sunday.
The LNA, which controls eastern Libya, is aiming to take over territory from the internationally-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) including Tripoli, as the country has been split between the two rival governments since 2014.
Over 10,000 Tripoli residents have so far been displaced due to the ongoing clashes, according to the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
