France’s Junior Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said that authorities will spend the next 48 hours securing the interior of Notre Dame cathedral, while speaking to the press in Paris on Tuesday.

He also said that the centuries-old church is currently under surveillance to prevent the fire from rekindling, but confirmed the blaze was extinguished.

Some of the most valuable items from the cathedral were secured at Hotel de Ville, Minister of Culture Franck Riester confirmed.

“The most precious treasures, notably the Crown of Thorns and the tunic of Saint Louis, are safe,” he said. “The great paintings will be removed from the site and stored inside the Louvre museum on Wednesday, ahead of undergoing restoration works.”
