Finland: SDP becomes biggest party post-election

Supporters of Finland’s Social Democratic party (SDP) in Helsinki were jubilant as the centre-left party secured the highest percentage of parliamentary votes on Sunday.

The SDP came out on top with 17.7% percent of the vote, securing 40 seats in the 200-seat parliament.

Party leader Antti Rinne, the man who wants to become Finland’s next prime minister, hailed the victory in an interview.

He acknowledged, however, the difficulties lying ahead as the party now looks to form a coalition capable of governing the country.
